BBC report on Newsweek's story about plans to delay the US presidential election if there is a terrorist attack on or about that day.

Anybody any thoughts on this?

Hmm...I'm going to be terribly cynical here..

This just sounds like a ploy to get people worried about a terrorist attack so they'll be too frightened to go out and vote.

I think Bush is going to be out on his ear come November and this is just typical of the whole administration...

WMD anyone?

Oh crap. I had an opinion, quick someone take it away from me before I have someone's eye out with it.

Not terribly shocked, I always knew this day would come, when a western leader would refuse to call an election due to a "national emergency", I also think they're scaremongering, but I also think Im not going to the States in November, just in case.

Given that the Madrid train bombings took place just prior to elections, I think they're just being prudent. Leaking this kind of preparations may deter any planned al Qaeda attack - if they think that their actions won't have the desired result, they might postpone attacks.

Perhaps I haven't had enough medication this morning: Would an Administration bomb select segments of their own populace in order to bias the election in their favor?

I doubt the Bush administration is going to pull off some of Reichstag fire to influence the election.

Frankly...

this strikes me as almost beside the point. I don't think that general response plans for our citizens have been adequately proposed, or at least communicated.

I'd rather know the location to which I'd evacuate than the date on which I'd vote.
