Apart from the fact that Cardiff will never be glamorous, the first two episodes of Torchwood weren't that bad. Russell T. Davies was true to form and ripped off Joss Whedon by pilfering the plot of an early Angel episode for the second Torchwood episode but that was really to be expected.

In all, good intelligent UK sci-fi drama with some intriguing insights into Captain Jack (one of which I did not expect at all). And I did love the Doctor Who references.

I agree. Both episodes were very enjoyable. Captain Jack was as lascivious as ever. And with the boy/boy, boy/girl and girl/girl action Russel was covering all of his viewer bases.

I have some thoughts on the severed hand. About halfway through the second ep I had a "Doh!" moment and realized that it must be the hand that was chopped off the Doctor in the Christmas episode. Am I reading too much into it, or just a bit slow on the uptake?

Everyone seems to think it was the Doctor's hand, god knows how he managed to get a hold of it.

It just seems wildly improbable to me. Why would he have this intense emotional connection to a hand the doctor didn't care about himself? Plus Captian Jack never struck me as being that invested in the doctor.

Not to mention the fact that this show takes place on top of a freaking dimensional rift hellmouth!! And the hero is cursed with eternal life.

But if you're going to steal make sure you steal from the best...
