You're dealing with guys that go to cons. And while many of them are nice and basically normal and there to buy videos and talk Doctor Who or whatever, there is a distinct subset that are socially retarded morons. The nerds, if you will, that give the rest of us a bad name.
I see that this guy gave a non-apology ("I'm sorry if you were offended, but that's not my fault, since I'm too much of an idiot to have forseen that...") but if he's smart he'll crawl under a rock until the solar system decays. I doubt he'll be welcomed with anything but extreme outrage at cons in the future.
I don't know about wank. I'm seriously angry that this will cause random assholes to approach women at cons and harass them. It's a horrible feeling to have someone treat you like a serious of holes. It's even worse when it's under the slimy pretext that women are responsible for healing your bruised ego for all those times you were shoved in a locker. And having to wear a badge that it isn't okay to harass? I...no words. Only violent retribution.
