I don't have a Twitter account. I love fanfiction because I'm not ready to live in the world without Buffy. Yes, there is a lot of bad fanfics out there. But there are real gems that give me everything the show gave me once.

That's odd - I just glanced a few pages of the twitter link you provided and it seemed like there was way more positive response than negative. When it's good - it's amazing and when it's bad - it's also amazing. I like that it keeps some of the worlds alive and it goes places the shows can never go. The bad stuff is quite spectacular though. I try to just read rec'd stuff - that helps weed a lot of the horror out.

Some of it is truly spectacularly good. In some cases the fanfic is much better than the show itself e.g. Smallville and SGA.
What's not to love... people have been making stuff up based on other existing stuff since the dawn of time. It's only recently that people invented "copyright".

I never understood the fanfic hate. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you like fanfic in general, but you get a few paragraphs into a particular story and it sucks, stop reading it. I agree, a lot of it sucks, but as Theodore Sturgeon said, 90 percent of anything is crud. Moreso on the internet. At least you're not paying for it.
