If we keep picking at the show we love, are we in danger of losing track of why we became fans of it in the first place?

No, I don't think so. I still keep coming across meta posts that contain points of view that I haven't seen before or meta posts that have made me re-think something in a different way. I see posts from newer fans that make me smile and remember what it was like watching the show as it aired. And I have read fanfic that's as wonderful as both BtVS and Ats and have found a few that I thought surpassed them.

I love reading new thoughts but when I see seemingly unending critiques of the show, characters and the writers where nothing positive is said, I do have to wonder why the author was a fan in the first place. Do they have something to prove or have they moved on?

I must admit that there are some days when I wonder the same thing.

Nope, because the fact the heroes in the show wern't perfect was the reason why I fell in love with it.
