What's a good dinner to serve four (plus the little man) on New Year's Day. Goose, lamb, ham, game bird?

Ham for me.... but then again I'm Italian so ham is wonderful here.

Ham or lamb would require less work than poultry. Also, pork or ham is considered lucky, because a pig's feet point forward, and poultry is considered unlucky because their feet point backwards when they scratch or fly.

If you make ham, serve it with a pineapple dish, as the pineapple is a symbol of prosperity and hospitality, and a dish made of cabbage (or something from the cabbage family, like brussel sprouts) because the leaves resemble a roll of money, and will bring money into the house.

My mother and her sister have a million superstitions, and even though I'm not superstitious, they do give you something to talk about at dinner.

Thanks Kuzibah. I think I'm just going to do my leg of lamb and roast veg. It never goes wrong, so it's a good thing to feed the inlaws! (although they might be beginning to think I can't cook anything else!)

Purely because it's my favourite I'd vote for the ham :)
