Since we seem to share the same hobby horse, I thought you might like to know I posted a follow-up. This will, I assume, be my last post on this particular incident, unless I wind up hearing from the fan in question and she wants any of that interaction to be public.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm one of the people who runs Whedonesque and it was me who posted the first link (I've added your follow-up to the entry). I hope the fan is ok.
Me too. I did see her around the con the rest of the event (she was an Amy cosplayer, if you watch Doctor Who) and seemed to be having a good time. If so, she's made of sterner stuff than me. Because while I had a great time at what is my favorite con, if I'd been in her shoes, I would not have been holding up as well.
Thanks for all (and for making this sort of stuff one of your issues. I don't really know its legacy in Buffy fandom, but I know how frustrated I am by it in other spaces I play in).
From what I'm seeing, your articles got people thinking about how fans' behaviour can impact on other fans. And that indeeds to be brought to the forefront of fandom from time to time. It's just a shame it took a bullying incident to do it.
(she was an Amy cosplayer, if you watch Doctor Who)
I adore Doctor Who, the latest Christmas special was one of the best things I'd seen on telly in ages.
