Welcome to Britain, Mr President

Various British and American writers and readers tell Dubya what's on their minds.

well...

I was watching the news last night - and apparently Mr.Bush has a bigger security team (including our police forces i think) than we have British soldiers in Iraq. Hmmmmmmm.

glad to see plenty of Brits think he's as deft as many Canadians think.

Well, I like Georgie...

Don't get me wrong. I could do without a policy of his here or there, but I like him as a man. He may not be the brightest bulb, but he IS decisive (and a Christian, which is icing on the cake for moi.) I totally stood behind the decisions taking us to Iraq, and still do.

What I have a problem with is many of our celebrities doing the anti-war thing after our boys were over there dying. It is the height of disrespect... and exactly the kind of attitude that lead to our Vietnam vets being called baby killers and crap when they came home. Protest war all you like, but once we are committed, get you butt in line to support our troops as best you can.

Anywho... I don't mean to say George shouldn't be talked bad about... lord knows I did my share of loathing Clinton (tries to hold back the vomit.) And I certainly get why other nations, who do things differently, take issue with certain actions. They may have a broader perspective, it is true. I, however, am glad to be an American. WE may often be wrong, but we are never unsure of ourselves! That's bound to tick people off, but I wouldn't have us any other way. We are the young nation... the upstart, which should make us a bit of a pain from time to time. But where would some of these nations be without us? (And know, I'm not gonna mention WW2!) We try to do what's right and sometimes make fools of ourselves, which, IMO, is better than doing nothing at all.

The Devil's Advocate

Thanks for sharing this

Hi SimonF,
I stumbled across your journal through another community and saw this post. Some very interesting letters written and I am glad I got a chance to read them.

While I share many of the concerns written, just one point to add about the "bias" of these letters -- usually the only opinions we see on any given subject are by those who oppose whatever the subject / person, etc. represents. After all, it is less common, although not impossible, for a support rally to be held. Most often what we see on TV / print media are the protests (which make for better copy!).

I do welcome any medium where people can express opinions and am glad to find a journal that shares this information that I would not have found on my own.

Thanks again.

not a problem :)

It was at the josswhedon community. I am new to the LJ world and was just naturally curious (read: nosy!) about people with similar interests.

I'm very disappointed with Dubya's war and our continuing irritation of Moslems and accretion of debt to kill foreigners. I objected to our intrusion into WWI and WWII and this one is even worse. We have plenty of problems here at home without getting involved in foreign interventions. Worse still Dubya's government is using our irritation of the Moslems to reduce the level of freedom here in the U.S. Despite the protests of Attorney General Ashcroft, I believe this restriction of American freedoms will eventually strip us of our private individual Second Amendment rights to own vehicle-mounted large caliber automatic weapons and shoulder fired surface to air missles. Maybe we would have been better off keeping the tyranny of George III.

I don't know what this topic has to do with Buffy, but Aly is the cutest creature to ever draw the breath of life.

Ciao,

John
