This is perhaps the best TV mini series to have come out of the 80s, I am so jealous that you guys get to see it (especially as they're filming new segments for it). It captivated me when I was a teenager. If you have Sundance, please please watch it. You won't regret it.

From Zap2it:

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - HBO's latest blend of fiction and political reality, "K Street," didn't work all that well and won't return to the schedule. An earlier, better-received experiment, however, is getting new life in time for the 2004 campaign.

The Sundance Channel has acquired the rights to "Tanner '88," an 11-episode miniseries that followed fictional presidential candidate Jack Tanner (Michael Murphy) on the 1988 campaign trail. The series featured Murphy interacting with a number of real-life political figures, including candidates Gary Hart and Bob Dole and members of the press corps.

Cynthia Nixon ("Sex and the City") played Tanner's 17-year-old daughter in the series, which also starred Pamela Reed, E.G. Marshall and Wendy Crewson ("24").

"The series is as timely as ever," says Paola Freccero, head of film programming for the Sundance Channel. "The presidential races of 1988 and 2004 look strikingly similar. Then as now, there was a huge slate of Democrats vying for their party's nomination. Then as now, the Democrats were attempting to defeat a Bush in the White House. We feel certain that the humor and political insight of 'Tanner '88' will resonate with today's audiences as much as it did 15 years ago."
"Tanner" was a creation of "Doonesbury" writer Garry Trudeau and director Robert Altman. They re-teamed to create a new set of introductory pieces for each episode airing on Sundance. In the one- to two-minute pieces, Tanner will reflect on his campaign and offer some thoughts about the current race.

"Tanner '88" is scheduled to premiere on Sundance at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, Feb. 3. It will air weekly through April 13.
