Aug. 24th, 2004 10:20 pmAnd we're above South Korea in the medal table which is something to be proud of I guess (didn't we have an Empire or something). And nice to see that three out of the top four countries in the table are in the Pan-Asia zone.
And I still haven't figured out why professional basketball players can compete in a sporting event that was originally designed for amateurs.
Moving on.
Guy fights for his country, now runs for President. See Eisenhower, Grant, Kennedy, George Bush Sr and Teddy Roosevelt.

Date: 2004-08-24 06:05 pm (UTC)It's the same thing with Hockey in the Winter Olympics... and I'm right there with you. It really really bothers me that pro players are allowed to play.

Date: 2004-08-24 06:37 pm (UTC)In the US, I think one of the incentives to win the collegiate national championship in sports like basketball & hockey should be you get to compete in the Olympics as the official US team. So you'd get someone like Duke University playing basketball at the Olympics instead of the US pros. I think they'd do fine.
