Personally?
Mar. 23rd, 2005 06:19 pmI'd rather see an Angel TV movie instead of a Spike one. Spike has always been a supporting character for me, a mirror to get a better look at Buffy or Angel. Try as I might, I can't get excited about watching him in a TV movie.
*sighs* I just want to see Angel shanshu.

Date: 2005-03-23 06:50 pm (UTC)"Question: Are we getting any closer to a Spike movie? — Heather
Ausiello: Based on my conversations with both Whedon and WB entertainment president David Janollari last Thursday, it certainly sounds like we are. When I asked Janollari if he had given any further thought to the Spike telepic I pitched him at press tour in January, he said, "I have given it more thought since you brought it up. It's certainly something that I continue to get many fan letters and e-mails about, and it's something that we discuss a lot around here. But no decision has been made." Well, literally 15 minutes after I hung up with Janollari, Whedon called to weigh in on a William the Bloody revival. "I'm really for it, but I have never really spoken to David Janollari," he said. "I occasionally would bring it up with [execs at 20th Century] Fox, and they'd be like, 'Yeah, that would be cool.' And I'm like, 'Who do we need to talk to?' And then nothing has really happened. I've been really busy in post [-production] on Serenity and haven't been able to get the wheels turning, but I definitely intend to investigate it." When I relayed to him that Janollari had just told me that he was open to the idea, Whedon responded, "Well, that's something that I hope to get a chance to pursue." And what about his Wonder Woman commitment? Wouldn't that further delay things? "[Spike] is not necessarily something that I would write and direct myself," he suggested. "I have a lot of brilliant friends who worked with me for many years who might be able to take the helm — somebody who both James [Marsters] and I would trust." Whedon also revealed that the Spike pic would not be a prequel, thereby alleviating the age-related concerns Marsters recently expressed in Ask Ausiello. "For me, Spike is a very contemporary guy," he said. "It's sort of what distinguished him from Angel." So let me get this straight: Not only did I pitch this movie to Janollari, but I secured the participation of its star and creator. If that's not enough to land me a producing credit, then something's wrong with the system."
I'd rather see him a pile of dust

I think whoever they do a movie about will depend more on economic reality
Date: 2005-03-23 07:20 pm (UTC)Boreanaz has a couple of movie projects going.
Alyson Hannigan- movies again.
ASH, working on various British productions, I understand.
Nicholas Brendon- a supporting role in an upcoming TV pilot. If it gets picked up and is a hit, he's in clover. If not... well, there are also rumors of a Xander TV-movie.
Eliza Dushku- At liberty since "Tru Calling" was cancelled. Hence the rumor of a Faith TV-movie.
Alexis Denisof- Wesley's dead.
Amy Acker- Nobody wants to see an Illyria movie. Ditto for Gunn. Sorry, J. August Richards. You seem like a nice guy, and I wish you much luck in the future.
Finally- James Marsters. 1)Spike, for whatever reason, was insamely popular. I think a lot of this comes from the passion JM brought to the role, but I can't discount his looks. 2)JM, despite having talent to burn, is over 40, and is essentially dead to Hollywood. In the year since Angel's cancellation he's done 2 projects: a guest spot on "The Mountain," that was clearly an attempt to bring the Buffy fans to the yard, and a made-for-TV movie, "Cool Money," which he did very well in, but appeared to have all the production values of your average kid's birthday video. 3)If the WB greenlights a Buffy-verse movie (kind of a big if, but if they can't re-new "7th Heaven" the next time contracts come due, they might try anything) and if Joss/Mutant Enemy is interested (depends on if the "Serenity" movie does well, primarily, also a big if) then JM is the only one who has affirmed publicly he'd like to do a TV-movie.
Which is why if there is a Buffy-verse movie in the next three years, the smart money is on Spike. After three years, the variables are too unpredictable. Boreanaz could be begging for work, and JM may be too busy, in which case all the above bones are rolled again (except Amy Acker. I don't think there will ever be demand for an Illyria movie.)

Date: 2005-03-23 09:12 pm (UTC)I like things left as they were.
Date: 2005-03-23 07:40 pm (UTC)Angel in an alley. Certain doom ahead, or will they rally?
And me left to fill in the blanks.
We've skipped to the end and I'm eager for Joss and ME to work on Serenity and find new projects.
