Someone at work just told me the White House and the Capitol building are being evacuated. The news sites are confirming that, but don't have anything more than that.

An all clear has been given. Blimey that must be very worrying for a few minutes for people in the Capital.

The news is reporting that the White House and Capitol building were evacuated because a single-engine plane has flown into restricted airspace. Two fighter jets were scrambled to deal with it. One source says warning shots were fired at the plane.

Yep, just as I thought (hoped), just some bonehead in a small plane went in the wrong area. All clear was given to return to White house and the capitol building.

I am amused that I found out about this from LJ, and that *just now* we got the following message:

Pentagon Force Protection Agency was notified that at 1215 a small plane had entered the National Capital Region no-fly zone. White House and Capitol were evacuated. Pentagon Force Protection Agency is awaiting the 'all clear' from proper officials. PFPA will notify when 'all clear' is given. No action to be taken by tenants at this time.
