Read how these people, The Project for the New American Century have influenced George W Bush in such a way after the September 11th attacks that war with Iraq was inevitable.
Firstly, just the reek of imperialism turns me off, but...
What strikes me is that every great empire falls, and the fall of empire has an accelerated timeline at the moment. Rather than fighting, and gnashing our teeth at the inevitable loss of American dominance, we should be working towards bettering relations with the world and, particularly, the countries we've had to screw over in order to achieve dominance.
The British Empire fell, but it fell in a way where it attempted (maybe not always succeeded, but attempted) to keep good relations with its former dominions and colonies (hence the Commonwealth). America needs to recognize that it can't be the dominant power in the world forever, and work towards not pissing everyone in the world off in a drive to maintain dominance for an incrimentally longer period. The momentum of the 20th century will keep America the dominant world power for decades more, and the current administration (guided by the PNAC principles) can only extend the natural course of empire a few years.
Rather than pissing off the entire Third World, we should be embracing it, because I believe that's where the next big superpower is going to rise from in the next century and a half.
The Project for the New American Century is insidious.
