Anyone else mildly concerned or more to the point absolutely horrified by the Iranian President's views on the Holocaust?

Relevant BBC coverage

At this rate, he'll prove to be a bigger threat than Saddam Hussein ever was (not that's saying much, Saddam was pretty much neutralised after Gulf War 1). If I was a betting man, I'd say Israel will take out Iran's nuclear installations within the next year. Much in the same way as what happened back in 1981, when the Israeli airforce destroyed the Osirak reactor outside Baghdad.

Um, where have you been?

He's been trying to rev up the US propaganda machine to hate Iran for the last three years.

Way I see it no one really seemed to care or notice what Bush was saying about Iran. At the minute, the Iranian president is doing Bush's job for him.

Ah, you lucky foriegners. The anger at Iranians in the American public has gone up in the last few years, from people going, "Aren't we already at war with them?" to people actually knowing the difference between Iraq and Iran.

There'd been talk amongst conservatives in general to the effect that Iran is on the verge of a popular revolution as the relatively more liberal younger generation butts heads with the the old guard funadmentalists. I once had someone insist to me that our invasion of Iraq was going to be the example lesson that touched off the regime change in Iran. Well, either the extent of liberalism in Iran was overstated, our invasion bolstered support for the current regime, or someone stuffed the ballot boxes, cause they're going in the opposite of the direction of the good.

It'll be interesting to see what Israel does in this situation. You might remember the stretch of time before our invasion of Iraq in which Bush was frantically attempting to broker something that resembled a truce in Palestine so that we could get our troops rolling without Gaza exploding behind us. The impression I have is that Israel has been warned that it's not the best time to go out on a limb if they're expecting fire support from us. Whether this is big enough to make them act anyway, well, let's just say I don't have any travel plans to the region.....

Yes, it's very disturbing, and he's an ass, but the good news is that unlike Hussein, he's not a law unto himself, the Supreme Ayattola, is alleged to be thinking, much like the rest of us, WTF? So hopefully it'll be taken care of internally, as the last thing the world needs is even more trouble in the Middle East.
