Sorry. Not sold.

I'll be as smug as I wish because my Mac simply doesn't crash, has no viruses or malware, and does the things I want it to smoothly and efficiently. My PC at work? I have to re-boot it at least once daily due to some glitch, and then there's the slow-down with virus scans and such.

Not to mention, I've read other articles (In PC communities, not Mac) that said that while Viruses and Malware are rarer in Macs, a very small part of it is due to the fact that Macs are not popular. It is harder to write viruses and such for the Mac OS, regardless of whether it has to go through Unix or not.

I'd say another reason to be a smug Mac user is that we're not that stupid. The article implies that Mac users just don't care, click willy-nilly on everything and everything. So not true. We care about our computers, moreso than the average PC user, and we don't wish to hurt it.

The article? Written by someone who's never used a Mac. 'Nuff said.

I agree with most of what you said...except that PC users don't care about their computers. That's not true. I couldn't live without Simon and my's laptop. I take very good care of it in all aspects, whether checking for viruses (virii?) or cleaning the screen.

Personally, I found that statement, well, smug.

Sorry bout that, but around here, on my work's campus, it's true. After talking to a lot of PC Users (yep, the tech guys), their computers are seen as just that, a computer. Throw things in it, throw things on it, if it gets messed up, zap the HD and start over. It's a tool (which I know all computers are supposed to be, but...)

But with what few Macs there are on campus, in certain computer labs and in instructor's offices, the Macs are more like friends than boxes. People are very protective of them.

Of course, this is taking into account that this IS a college campus, with multiple computer labs to take care of, so it's hard to care when dealing with litterally a thousand or more computers. At home it's different. If I had (or get) a PC, I'll probably treat it with the same care as the Mac.

Actually he is a Mac user, he did a follow up article that I've linked to.

What the writer actually means to point out is that it's impossible to write bugfree software and that there will be glitches viri can slip through, whether using a Mac or a Windows PC. Everyone should take care of their computer. (Or look -- as is my case -- for a good (wo)man to do it *g*) Problem is, I think, computers (Mac and PC) are sold as "immediately and easy to use", but that is security-wise never the case.

But my Mac, of course, is and stays the best. *smug look*
