Happy Easter to my Christian chums on this most important day in their calendar. And does anyone refer to Easter Saturday as Easter Eve? The Times' telly guide referred to yesterday as Easter Eve and it just looked extremely odd.

Never heard that. And we Icelanders love our holiday names: Thursday is "Sheer day," Friday is "Long Friday," Sunday is "Easter day," Monday is "Second Easter day" - all of them holidays. Saturday, however, is just ... Saturday.

There's something within the Catholic church called the triduum sacrum - the three days before Easter which refers to Holy Saturday - but me being Lutheran and about as religious as ... well, I can't think of anything that has less religion than I - I can't tell you how important any of it is within today's church mandate.

Holy Saturday.

Possibly Vigil Day.

Easter eve? Um, the Ressurection happened at night, so that doesn't really make sense.

Happy Easter!

In Germany Easter Saturday is "Karsamstag" (Good Friday=Karfreitag). The name is derived from "kara," an old word meaning "grief" or "to grieve." (This, in turn, is related to the Old English word "caru," which gives modern English the word "care.")
