Why is the Firefly/Serenity fandom a lot more masculine than the Buffy fandom?

Is this a test?

If I may over-simplify:

Firefly - male hero and macho machinery

Buffy - female hero and emasculation of (mostly male) vampires

I suspect it comes down to some very basic points.

Buffy is the compulsion to save the world.

Firefly aims to misbehave. ;Þ

Because one is part of a more Western genre and one is more Magical Girl genre.

Spaceships and "cowboys" versus sexy vampires; let me think... no the superficial me doesn't think it needs to analyze this further to explain this one.

Of course one perhaps could also go into the moral and ethical stuff, (buffy's largely "female" ethics vs firefly's largely "male" ethics) but I'll leave that particular discussion to someone else more as I'm pretty sure I don't agree with the implications of that premise.
