Now the Jossverse fandom has had its fair share of angst, drama and internecine warfare.

A few examples:

The Kittens
Shipping wars - too numerous and yawn inducing to mention
The Save Wash campaign (a po-faced effort to get Universal to force Joss to edit and reshoot Serenity).
Cordy angst
Spike is evil/wonderful
The secret reason why some people don't like Sarah Michelle Gellar (but I'll perhaps address that in a later post)
Marti Noxon hate

Anyhow some people may be aware of trouble in the Harry Potter fandom. When I say trouble I mean epic and damaging. My fandom has nothing on this one.

So without further ado, I gave you the MsScribe story which came via Fandom Wank. 90000 words on how one fan manipulated a fandom. It is highly recommended reading.

You forgot "Xander's lie" from Becoming, part II.

I'm happy that the HP fandom exists - it makes the rest of us look oh so sane.

As I've said a million times, the writers were a team, and if they all say that they still broke the scripts together, I'm going to believe them. So dumping all the blame on Marti for some of the choices is ridiculous.

But as of May 2007, the show will have been off the air for four years, and I think the reamining fandom should just call "statute of limitations" on the debates. At least I'm planning on it.

Perhaps the HP fans can do the same.

There are people out there who'll go to their graves blaming Marti Noxon etc. and I'll continue to steer clear of them.

The Save Wash campaign sounds scary.

When I don't like something so much, I prefer to blame the show in general. I find that if my hatred, disappointment, whatever, is spread out over all involved with a show, then the anger has a distinct lack of focus, and it dissipates into a general irritation with a show rather than a singular "THIS PERSON MUST DIE" attitude. Which is healthier? Who's to say.

Also, this MsScribe story is just plain weird.

The Kittens (wor)shipped Willow and Tara like no other. When Tara was killed things got ugly.

That made for a fascinating read, and I only skimmed it as I need to go to work, I wonder why she did it? Cause she could I suppose.

There was a Save Wash campaign?!?

Dear god.

I mean, I love the character. But honestly.

And how did they imagine they'd "save" Wash? I mean, the guy took a frigging telephone pole through the chest!

"Aw, I'm ok. It was only a splinter..."

I think the way the Simpsons did it with Fallout Boy would be the best way: have someone do a little ADR in the final battle going, "We're in a tight situation, eh WASH?" and cut to a shot of Wash from earlier in the film, maybe on a different planet, or sitting in Serenity's cockpit, saying, "Yes." Nobody would be able to tell!

I skimmed the thing, and... whaaaa?

Hee, it all seems so silly from the outside, but I imagine it was SCANDAL.

I'm curious now! Still very new to the Whedon fandom, as I didn't discover the shows until last year when a friend dragged me to see Serenity. Now I've seen all of them (god bless Netflix!)
Didn't know you were on LJ, Simon. I'm greentara76 at whedonesque as well. Nice to see you.
