Where's the love, people?
Apr. 10th, 2003 09:34 amSo mum and dad met Princess Anne yesterday in Derry which was amazing news and a complete surprise to me (for obvious reasons). Mum seemed a little underwhelmed by it but with the medication she's taking little wonder really. Watched Princess Anne on the local news but only saw dad's shirt. For some reason the fall of Baghdad and an effort to kick start the Northern Ireland peace process took precedence over the first time a member of the royal family has been in a very nationalist and republican city in Northern Ireland.
My sister Anna has a new job working for Lycos Italy and will be in charge of half their website. And I'm going to a wedding on Friday to see an old friend marry a girl from Peru.
And amazing scenes from Baghdad yesterday, great to see that statue toppled. Those Iraqis must have been so relieved to see that evil bastard's regime gone (at this time of writing US troops are fighting Iraqi soldiers near a mosque where Saddam is rumoured to be hiding in).
My dream outcome from all of this, is the that Iraqi people will have free and democratic elections where a President can be elected by the majority of the popular vote and this will hopefully inspire the rest of the Middle East to follow suit.
My nightmare scenario is that the US and the UK get bogged down in Iraq and their administration falls to pieces with various Iraqi factions fighting each other and Turkey, Syria and Iran trying to influence the events going on there.
In other news, 40 days to the Buffy finale.
