It's the end, the final triumph

The spoiler board is starting to wind down now, well we think we know what's going to happen in the finale, but I wouldn't be surprised if Joss pulls a fast one on us.
The bit where I make some lame assed comment about current affairs
The SARS virus seems to be getting very serious indeed and if it spreads to Western Europe, I can see a lot of restrictions happening including quarantining for transatlantic flights. The NHS here in the UK would not be able to handle a mass epidemic and I doubt any Western European countries would be able too either.

Back when Bosnia was kicking off big style in 1995, a group of artists recorded tracks for a charity album and from recording to manufacturing to releasing the album, it only took a week. So the same charity have done the same for the children of Iraq.

Buy it for Avril murdering "Knocking on Heaven's Door" at least.
Things to do for Homecoming
Find out what everyone's real name is. Very important. Hopefully, people will wear their name badges. I'll let you into a little secret, half of the people on the boards I can't actually pronounce their screen names properly.

Date: 2003-04-21 03:36 pm (UTC)Uhhh...right?
You know I was really suprised that the whole SARS issue didn't come to the media sooner. I remember reading the back page of The Times about it with my friend Winnie (she's Chinese) about a month ago, and even then we thought it was a big thing, and it also seemed pretty obvious without any formal statement that China had been lying about the number of cases. Our school advised most chinese girls not to go home for the holidays, and they can't come back to school for 10 days after returning from Hong Kong / China. It just struck me as strange how people are only just talking about it well, now...

Date: 2003-04-21 04:57 pm (UTC)I actually wrote about the spread of SARS last Friday. I find it worrisome - the article I read today said doctors suspect the disease has a wide enough distribution to stay within the population indefinitely. Flu tends to come from mutated chicken/bird/pig virus resevoirs, but even in the absence of an animal host SARS has likely infected enough people to stay around. They've had five cases in Virginia, one in the next county over from mine. The doctors were educated about bio-terrorism in the aftermath of September 11th and took isolation precautions that kept the disease from spreading. You have no idea how happy that makes me.
