Ian Richardson died. He was one of my favourite ever actors and played Francis Urquhart in the House of Cards trilogy. I may have to watch that again as he was so damn good playing a villain. (BBC obituary).

Whilst me and my wife were watching M.A.S.H. last night on the Paramount Channel, we noticed that the word "negro" was blanked out everytime some one said it on screen. Is is this a new thing and does it happen in other countries?

And for sheer merriment, Movie Mom's review of Serenity and how families should discuss the movie.

Very early in the series, one of the main characters was "Spearchucker" Jones. He only lasted half-way througgh the first season.

Watching re-runs on the Hallmark channel, they seem to alternate, both allowing AND blanking both his name and "negro". It's confusing.

I'm assuming it's because the word "negro" is now considered politically incorrect and might offend people, so it's being censored out. It happens here, too.

This sounds as dumb as the ABC censors bleeping the word "orgasm" during an interview with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz on "The View." They had a comedian guest host, and she was talking about the extremely hot bath tub sex scene in "The Fountain," and she said, "I saw that scene, and child, I had a (orgasm) that lasted me a week!" And you could still tell what she said.

Since when is orgasm a bleepable word?

Oh really too bad. Way too young. He was so brilliant at that coiled snake malevolence, the Garden of Eden snake, all cunning intelligence.

Thanks for the link to the "Serenity" review, Simon. I hadn't seen that one before. I remember before the movie came out that several people on the boards were asking whether they should take their children to see it or not. This would have been a good answer.
