A true story as told to me by one of my work colleagues yesterday.
"So I went to the local Spar at lunchtime and there was no one else there. I buy a drink and the two cashiers ask me "What's the polite name for black people these days?". So I just stand there and then they say "What do you think they call us? Whiteys?" and they laugh."
Meanwhile elsewhere a government minister in the Northern Irish administration does an interview with Hot Press magazine and says:
"I am pretty repulsed by gay and lesbianism. I think it is wrong. I think that those people harm themselves and - without caring about it - harm society. That doesn't mean to say that I hate them. I mean, I hate what they do."
Petty racism and rampant homophobia. Nothing changes here.
