Hollywood Reporter article on the dark side of tv blogging

Good article with some food for thought regarding the latest stage of fandom.

It's not only fandom. It's general behaviour on the internet. I think this interlaces with the growing number of people that say what they think on the internet and believe they can't be tracked down. When reading replies on blogs that garner a lot of traffic I notice people making comments you'd never ever make in RL and face-to-face interactions. You might think it, but keep your mouth shut.

The same happens with email. People tend to quickly write very informal emails, even to people they shouldn't be writing emails like this to. I know of a lot of professors who wonder what comes in students' heads when they start an email adressed to their lecturer with "Hi [enter first name]".

Yeah, I can write an article on this.

I dont know if its the internet or if fandom has always just had the element that takes it all far too seriously and has serious entitlement issues, I do remember reading Jenkins Textual Poachers for my PhD though and thinking some of these people were taking the whole thing way to seriously so I tend to suspect the later, the internet just makes it easier to see.

Wait...

"John from Cincinnati" has been cancelled? Dammit.

Oh, and TV people are just now twigging that the internet is full of crazy people? Where have they been for the last ten years? :)
