Writers are smarter than fans, so just deal with it.
Not enough Bjork the Vampire Slayer fanfic out there.
Philip Seymour Hoffman should play Joss in the movie.
The secret reason why some fans dont like the Buffy season 8 comic books is that they can't make fan videos out of them.
There are Buffy fans half my age.
Still moaning about a particular plot arc and the person who wrote it? Get over it and move on. The show ended years ago. To say that you "hate" something about the show makes you out to be a sad little wanker who has no grasp of what's really important in life. Also you look like a loser.
Deep analysis of shows bores me to tears.
"My favourite ship" posts makes me want to ram two fingers down my throat.
The anti-slash/pro slash arguments are just too smug and arrogant for words.

Although I do get a bit giddy when certain twosomes are up on the screen I totally understand what you mean. Every one has different opinions of the show that's what makes it so good but when people get into arguments over the stupidest things it gets annoying. I don't particularly "hate" anything about the show, or any couples. The only "couple" I hate is on Veronica Mars but that's a story for another time.

And, I love Jane Espenson.

I think I pretty much agree with everything you just aid.

There have been aspects of the show I've like more than others - but to say e.g. that I hate season 6 or 7 because it didn't turn out as I expected... Bah! Blasphemy!

Bottom line: the best show that ever was. Not perfect - simply the best. End of wank story.

Writers are smarter than fans, so just dealt with it. (No "T", thus proving the point.)
Not enough Bjork the Vampire Slayer fanfic out there. (A girl who sings in Icelandic while slaying?)
There are Buffy fans half my age. (Wait until they're 1/4 your age.)
To say that you "hate" something about the show makes you out to be a sad little wanker who has no grasp of what's really important in life. Also you look like a loser. (Talking about the Republicans now?)
Deep analysis of shows bores me to tears. (You obviously didn't major in English.)

Whooo! Was it one thing, a combination of things or a bad hangover that spurred this one. Must say I found it entertaining, not just for the raw ferociousness of it, but for the image of readers all over the world, well, parts of it anyway, reeling back in horror and surprise. Something must have set this off. Care to share?

I agree with everything except the deep analysis bit. Years and years of lit classes have hardwired my brain into finding crap like that endlessly fascinating.

Writers are smarter than fans, so just deal with it.

What about writers who ARE fans? For instance, I know a few big-name SF fiction writers who are big fans of BtVS. Are they not as smart as the BtVS writers? Is, say, Larry Niven allowed to criticize the pacing of Season 7 if he has more Hugos than Joss?

Mind you, I've seen lots of newbie fanfic writers, especially reallybadfic writers, who get caught up in their own version of the story, and then seem to hate the actual writers for not writing it exactly the same way they did, which they now see as the only correct way. Damn Joss for actually insisting on themes, action, story and actually involving the other characters when he obviously should have written entire seasons of Giles/Snyder/Gachnar PWP.

But I don't think that means that fans can't say, "You know, I really love that show, but I hate that one particular episode from Season One, so I always skip that one when I watch the DVD." It's when they create a board where they talk about virtually nothing else but how much they hate that episode that it becomes laughably wanky,

LOL. And, I think I have some good reasons...

for disliking the comics, and they have nothing to do with fan vids.

Changing my tune during Vaughn's Faith arc for two reasons.

1. He is, in my opinion, a better comic book writer than Joss and many of the other writers. It's not a comic trying to pace itself like a TV show, which I think is a fault in some of Whedon's comic work. He seems very capable at writing for both mediums and that works very well for a comic that's based on a TV show.

2. For the first time since I started reading Season 8, I feel like the actors are actually present when I'm reading the copy and looking at the images. In the earlier issues, I felt like the writers underestimated how much the actors contributed to their characters - how essential their presence is. Vaughn worked some incredible magic, because I didn't miss them this time around; they all seemed very much alive and well and in comic book form.

I can see where you are coming from. I prefer his X-Men to his season 8 stuff so far but then he did play a blinder with #5.

"Writers are smarter than fans, so just deal with it."

Well that fucks Dr Who up for you, because fans literally run that damn show.

As you're painfully aware loads Who's production people were fans who have gone onto work on it, and I'm sure they're not the only ones.

Everyones a fan of something! :)

Ha ha! Actually, you can. You just take still scans of the comic and create a video with them adding music. Certainly not the same, but if someone were desperate.
