Man of the year
Dec. 10th, 2007 07:20 pmYesterday the BBC aired one of the most emotionally powerful interviews in recent memory. What happened was that the Archbishop of York cut up his dog collar and vowed never to wear one again until Mugabe is gone from power in Zimbabwe.
The Guardian reports that
"Dr John Sentamu made the gesture on the Andrew Marr show. He removed his dog collar, saying: "As an Anglican this is what I wear to identify myself, that I'm a clergyman. Do you know what Mugabe has done? He's taken people's identity and literally, if you don't mind, cut it to pieces. In the end there's nothing." Marr was stunned, but BBC staff in the production control room cheered."
Personally I'm an atheist but I don't think I've ever been so moved by an interview like this in years. Good for you Dr John. Anyone who stands up to that murderous thug in Zimbabwe gets my full support.
