Anyone else think the Buffy fandom has a huge inferiority complex over this Twilight series? There can be other epic vampire romances besides Buffy and Angel and Buffy and Spike. Just saying. It does seem like we're getting very defensive about the whole business.

You mean BTVS wasn't the first to use vampires as romantic figure?!

Next you'll be trying to tell me that ATS wasn't the first series to use vampire as detective. :P

I'd rather say that Buffyverse fandom has a huge superiority complex over Twilight - but that's just me. :)

or maybe an inferority complex because of the superiority complex.

(sorry, had to be said....)

Agreed. Superiority complex. But then, I believe it's justified. And I actually did read the books and enjoy them, but I recognize the serious flaws within. Oh, the flaws! Twilight is fun, it's just immature weaksauce compared to Buffy.

I tried to read them but I couldn't. They sounded like season 1 Angel/Willow fanfics written by a very unexperienced ficwriter (sorry, Twilight fans...)

But Simon - we are, well, right in thinking that we are superior to Twilight! Twilight is making more money because it hit the next wave of Harry Potter market. The message of Twilight is so drastically different than Buffy - perhaps we just need to acknowledge that we are comparing apples with oranges. Rancid, rotten, smelly overripe oranges.

Before Buffy/Twilight was Tale of a vampire.

Alex (Julian Sands) is a lonely vampire still mourning the loss of his lover, Virginia. He spends most of his time brooding the streets and hanging around the local library until one day he meets Ann who bears a striking resemblence to Virginia. Like Alex, Ann is alone and in mourning of her lover who died in an accident. Through bizarre circumstances brought on by a mysterious man, Ann and Alex become drawn and attracted to one another.

I think it's more because we had a good show that never got real popular, but this bullshit abusive 'relationship' for Twilight is.

Did you see the Buffy vs. Edward fanvid? I really liked it, then I sat down and did some unpacking and realised the reason I react so negatively to Edward and Bella is that it's huge echoes of my own abusive relationship (he's breaking into her house and watching her while she's asleep!!!~!!@#!@) and this is being held up to young girls as the height of all romance?!?!?!?!?!??!

Yeah, it sounds like it would be fun to have a cute immortal stalker, but the reality is not so fun.

Bella, the self-sacrificing female. Ugh. I hate the notion too. It's like, 'barefoot and pregnant'. *shivers*
Buffy the Vampire Slayer's more complex than a sappy romance, although, Bella gains a few stars when she finally becomes a vampire in book four.
Anybody wanna take a gander at this crazy crossover fanfic I got brewing?
It's entitled: Vulcan Twilight
LOL

Yeah. I know, and sorry for this shameless plug, but I couldn't resist. I'm starved for attention. XD

I'm actually considering Buffy as an antidote for Twilight for my 15 year old niece.
