How come the fandom isn't talking more about IDW's Angelverse comics? Despite having the two male heavy hitters (Angel and Spike in case you're wondering), there doesn't seem to be that much interest. From a Whedonesque admin point of view I've noticed that when the discussion threads for the Buffy and Angel comics get posted on the same day, there's at least twice as many hits for the Buffy comic than for the Angel one.

Perhaps the core ATS fandom was never as hardcore as the core BTVS one? All of the ATS fans I know moved onto other fandoms years ago. I'd still check out a live action version if they made a TV movie or something, but it's been years since I was interested enough to buy something like comics.

I think season 5 caused a lot of the old Angel fans to jump ship. From what I remember there was a lot of bitterness about Cordy getting axed and Spike coming on board.

Yeah, that's a good point, it's not like Firefly for example where the vast majority of the fandom felt the rug was pulled out of them. A lot of people were already out of love with the show when it ended anyway. Perhaps as BTVS came first for most people any flaws it had where overlooked when it ended and so it's retained a more loyal fan following.

Angels always been the 'poor relation' of the Buffyverse. Also, I think that more shipper folk tend to congregate around Buffy then Angel, where those type of set ups took more of a back seat.

As to season 5, did that many jump ship? I think some may have, but that was more then balanced out by those who didn't used to watch AtS originaly, but then started when Buffy ended and season 5 took off. Some of course becasue they were Spike fans and wanted to foloow the character there.

Frankly, the Angel comic isn't as good (IMO.) I read both, but the Angel comic isn't as focused or compelling as the Buffy one. And you know what a major Angel fan I am.

Yeah, this.

I read both for a long time, hoping that the Angel comic would somehow come together. When I got tired of the waiting and the muddled art, I dropped Angel but continue to follow Buffy which is worth it for the covers alone.

Agree with kuzibah too. I read both, but always find myself reading the Buffy comic on the way home from the comic book store...not the Angel one. Really enjoyed the Drusilla one, and the Illyria/Gunn one is going to be good too. I just feel the writing on the Buffy comic is more in line with the writing of the show which is the whole reason I got into the comic in the first place. I've never read comics before this.

Very interesting question, Simon. I'm going to come back to this later on (after I finish my Herald post) but in the meantime, would it be okay if I link this on today's issue?

I read a couple of the Buffy comics and didn't like them. The Angel comics, OTOH, I like - a lot. I've read all of them, and like3 them.

Well for one, the Angel comics are much harder to find over here. I personally like them as much as the Buffy comics, if not more. However, I have to wait until the hardback comes out and then travel to Brussels to get it. It's a hassle, frankly.

I know I stopped reading Angel at issue 10 or so. I do still read Buffy, though it's been forever since I jumped in a convo about it.

I love Angel and Spike both, and I loved when Spike was added to the show in season five. As for the comics themselves, I just can't seem to get into them, some of the things they had take place in there I wasn't on board with and I lost interest in them, the comics anyway, not the fandom:)

I've never liked the BtVS comics (I think that the plot is too different from the show, and too absurd), and I stopped reading the AtS comics when IDW revealed that it wasn't bringing Fred back to life. That disappointed and upset me so badly that I can't bear to even look at an AtS comic book anymore, let alone discuss it. I also hate that Spike's been spun off into his own comic book line and separated from the rest of the Fang Gang, and that's another reason why I've stopped reading and talking about them.
