Since no one quite understood what I was talking about yesterday, it's inspired me to write a history of the Buffy fandom in the last 10 years. It will cover the following:

1) What ever happened to the Banders?
2) The rise of the cult of Joss
3) How the Spike fans joined the Establishment
4) The effect of season 8 on the seven year stalemate
5) New blood vs old hands

And lots lots more.

Actually, I'm really looking forwards to this. I wasn't in the fandom while the show aired, so I've only heard various accounts of What Went Down, most of them colored by the Spuffy Persecution Complex (of which I personally have a mild case). Just be sure you get all the various denominations of Spikeism down - wouldn't want any new Fandom Reformations to happen.

I'm definitely looking forward to your account as well, Simon. I didn't become a member of the Joss fandom until the Firefly DVDs came out. Although I had watched that show when it was on TV and fell in love, it wasn't until I listened to the commentaries and heard Joss talk about Buffy and Angel that I started watching them (a few months later) and then became a member of Whedonesque (I had only dabbled before), so I'm interested in your perspective.
