It's hard to get past the shipping wars that nearly wrecked the fandom back when seasons 6 and 7 were on the air. Some of us have long memories.

This is why I like reading articles from newcomers.

What's sad is when you become a target of the "opposing" side in the war and get dragged down into it. I joined fandom in 2008. I have lots of perspective on both shows that has nothing to do with liking Spuffy currently or liking Bangel back in the early seasons. But I get to be discounted because I'm a shipper.

You won't find me running around discrediting other folks opinions for being a shipper. Too bad there are so many others who more than make up for my refusing to make prejudicial judgment. :-/

It's unfortunate that the new shippers are tainted as a result of what has gone before. But neither side seems to want to admit that they helped shape the current climate.

The last few years have been relatively calm on the shipper front but the comics have stirred the fandom up again.

I know that it's disheartening for you. But it's something that never truly disappears from fandom altogether. You either learn to ignore the taunts, learn to live with it or just walk away.

My experience of starting to write reviews and do interviews two years ago has been that some people have this need to put new writers in a shipper box whether they have a preference or not. I'm forever a Bangel because I once said that I thought the show painted Spike and Buffy's relationship into a corner during Seeing Red. I have never once talked about Buffy and Angel's relationship but, nevermind that, I'm Bangel all the way and I *really* hate Spike. Who knew? I sure didn't.

Darn it - can't edit my comment! Sounded like I was whinging about not getting on a forum. There are plenty I could use.

What I meant to say was I had some things I was thinking of saying...sometime... (non-committal is my name) and I thought I might...sometime... say them... And it was good to know that someone might be interested... sometimes.

Or something like that..
