Same old, same old - the mentality of some fans

The fan reaction in certain quarters to Amy's actions in last night's Who was very reminiscent of some of the fan reaction to Buffy when season 4 aired.



It would be seem that young women shouldn't be sexually active. Oh noes, the horrors!

Buffy got called a slut and a whore cause OMG she had sex with Parker.

Amy gets called a slut and a whore cause OMG she wants to have sex with the Doctor.

Do some fans really want to get back to the liberating era that was the Victorian Age?

No but I think some don't want new Who to be an even poorer mans Twilight, even though I suspect Moffat has other ideas, going by his press releases.

That's why I found Donna such a refreshing change, because she was 'old school' in that she wanted to travel with the Doctor to see the wonders of the Universe, and not just angle for a shag. *g*

Oh and to add I don't know what fan boards you used to hang on, but I never saw anyone calling Buffy a slut due to Parker.

You were lucky. I posted on the Voy boards which were fast and furious. Quite an eye opener to what the fandom can be like sometimes.

I think it was refreshing that a companion finally just went for it and jumped the Doctor (Go Amy!) and none of that pining nonsense...

I do not think she is a slut.

I do think it came out of nowhere. And that's why I found it strange.

I never got that Amy was in love (lust?) with the Doctor. There was not really any flirting or suggestion, just suddenly leaping onto the bed. No judgment of her actions, but there wasn't anything leading up to them that I saw.

My issues with it are not so much that it was the Doctor she was macking on as that she is engaged to be married and is being unfaithful to her fiance.

However, something people seem to have forgotten is that she was a Kiss-O-Gram. And thus, I don't think she'd have the same inhibitions as most other companions.
