For those who weren't around 3 years ago to see this bombshell posted at Whedonesque. I think it's our most read entry by far.

I was surprised when I saw who had written this. And then I wasn't.

And yet, the "college theory" is moronic.

In essence, it's a conspiracy theory.

Well he does say it's a silly theory but he may be using to shield from a more unpleasant truth (such as deep down people are essentially evil or something like that).

But see, that would be even sillier.

Back to his actual written word and away from speculation.

All he does in that "theory" is taking a rather idiotic idea by Sigmund Freud (penis envy) and applicating it to different genders.

Out of the blue at some point in time some non-specified people decide that women are less. Who is that? If society was at some time equal - why could some people come up with this idea and actually succeed? This does sound an awful lot like "shadow men" aka conspiracy.

And conspiracy theories are stupid, right?

All the ideological superstructure of our society is just that: construct. If one wants to actually explain the world it is advised to lay free the core working mechanisms of our coexistence (as opposed to our feelbe attempts to cover them up).

As Aristotle states, we humans are "zoon politicon", societal beeings (Aristotle in "Politics", chapter 2). We build societies to work and live together and we construct these societies to fulfill our basest needs, and to give us further purpose. At the core is the fullfillment of our requirement of existance. In other words, the economy.

"Certain economic factors once led to the subordinate position of women, with her natural characteristics playing a purely secondary role. Only the total disappearance of those (economic) factors, only the evolution of those economic forms that once caused the enslavement of women, can effect a radical change in their social position. In other words, women can only become truly free and equal in a world that has been transformed and based on new social and economic principles." (A. Kollontai)

I run out of time - work is calling.
If you are truly interested in further thoughts on this - let me know.
