Did Willow become the most popular Buffy character without anyone noticing? Gut instinct says this could be the case.

I think it depends on which corner of a still astonishingly fragmented fandom you spend your time in. Spike is definitely ahead by some considerable distance from where I'm standing...

Whilst Spike will always have a strong following on LJ, I'm seeing more and more Willow references when I do polls and stuff on our Twitter account. It's interesting to see that she does have such a strong following.

It depends on where you're standing. I'd say Spike is still overwhelmingly popular if you go by the big online polls.

"I'd say Spike is still overwhelmingly popular if you go by the big online polls."

There used to be jokes about that. Bad times. Would cause a lot of wank. Anyhow as I said to [livejournal.com profile] gillo I'm seeing more and more Willow references when I do polls and stuff on our Twitter account. Do more Joss fans like Willow as opposed to Buffy fans? Or is it a trend within the fandom overall? It's quite interesting to see.

She was and she'll be forever my favourite character for sure!

Why do you ask?

I'm seeing more and more people liking Willow on our Twitter account. It's by no means the ultimate indicator of fandom opinion, but I do think there's a rise in her popularity.

I'm gald to hear it.
Willow's arc in the show, was deep, long and full. On her way, she emblemed the "girl power" as much as Buffy did.

With the exception of one poster, I haven't seen any particular affection for Willow in any of the parts of the fandom I inhabit. On the contrary, I still hear about people who feel disconnected, etc. etc. One wonders if there's any way to get a snapshot of the fandom as a whole.

If you had the time and inclination, you could probably get a survey answered.

Aside from LJ & Whedonesque would target:

Slayalive
Buffy Boards
Cold Dead Seed
Buffy/Angel Haven
The IMDB forums
The various Facebook groups
The twitter followers of various sites
io9.com

And those are just the English speaking sites.

[livejournal.com profile] yourlibrarian did one back in 2006. But you would have to chase them up for the questions cause the survey site was on Geocities.
