Fans are not necessarily untouchable, but fans posting honest opinions do not deserve to be mocked by offended professionals trolling fanboards.

Err, Brain Lynch for one. He just doesn't seem to understand the concept of free speech sometimes judging by his behaviour in places such as Whedonesque. It's a shame because I do still like his earlier writing.

I get that someone would feel hacked off when reading harsh criticism of what they've done, ( hell I get that all the time on the Who fan boards and have to bite my tongue) but sometimes you just have to stand back and maintain a little professional detachment.

Don't know if you are responding to me with the fans thinking they are untouchable thing. I don't mind Brian snarking at me. I think it's kind of funny. But I do think it gives me license to snark back.

The only thing I find puzzling is that I thought Whedonesque usually reprimands for posts that are nothing but a personal diss. But as long as things don't escalate, I don't personally mind having a purple guy say he doesn't like me. I'm quite clear about not thinking he's a very good writer. My one actual suggestion to y'all, though, is that you might want to think about what Brian's presence does to discussion. He does police so that folks with negative opinions get driven away (I left the IDW boards years back for just that reason). He does cuddle up to fans who are more positive. Having the actual writer so personally involved with who does or does not like him tends to dampen actual discussion. But it's your board -- so just take that as a thought and not some big campaign or anything.

I genuinely don't think he dissing anyone. I think he's responding with humour but there's no trolling or malice behind it.

He responds with humor, for sure. I've seen too much of it (in lots of other places) to think it's good humor. We're talking about a guy who swooped onto someone's LJ page to tell her off for writing a negative review of one of his comics. (And I think that's what was meant by the word "trolling" -- not pot stirring; but rather looking for/begging for strokes, being defensive when strokes are not forthcoming.)
