Fandom should be like Caesar's wife?

Sometimes I wonder why there's an outcry over fans selling their fanfic but not then it comes to fans selling unlicensed t-shirts, jewellery etc. Should fans be allowed to make money in such a way? The whole issue leaves me feeling very uncomfortable. I'm in it for the fun and the thrill of it all, naive me likes to think others feel the same.
