Lest we forget
Aug. 15th, 2003 11:28 amToday is the fifth anniversary of the Omagh bomb, Northern Ireland's worst terrorist atrocity.
Town to remember bomb victims
I was back from England that weekend, spent that day numb watching the death toll rise on the news. Went for a drink in my local bar in the late afternoon and a few of us stood round the tv muttering under breath "bastards how could they do this". The barman who served had his sister killed in the 70s by an IRA bomb. Only one man has ever been convicted. It also saved the peace process , those who were wavering in the terrorist groups who had signed up to ceasefire stood back from the brink as public opinion around the world was revulsed.
An awful day. Awful.
