Ender's gay
Jan. 21st, 2005 10:41 pmOrson Scott Card praises Firefly and the fans react vehemently. Still this is a storm in a tea cup compared to what the gay and lesbian Marvel fans think of him writing the Ultimate Iron Man mini-series.

Card unfortunately suffers from what someone (I forget who) called the Dave Sim effect

ENDER'S GAME is arguably the greatest SF novel of the past quarter-century, and even though it was no secret Card was a devout Mormon, with all that entails, I still felt betrayed by his editorial in support of the anti-gay-marriage amendment. Did his books suddenly turn from sensitive, incredible, coming-of-age SF novels asking significant questions about life and death into hateful, homophobic trash? No, but it's getting harder and harder to keep an open mind about his work.
That being said, I cannot deny (as some posters have) that Card's (or Sim's, for that matter) work isn't totally brilliant. I prefer to think that the author of ENDER'S GAME like FIREFLY, not the right-wing columnist.
Ha ha!
