Meanwhile a real issue actually dares enter my journal.

Is anyone here a line manager or has been a line manager in the past? I'm having problems with one of my staff who refuses to speak and embarrassed the heck out of me yesterday by refusing to acknowledge me at a meeting that I was leading. I repeatedly said his name but all he did was stare at a piece of paper. Later on, others tried to speak to him but he ignored them as well *sighs*. We're very flexible in my office but that was just taking the biscuit. He's not a team player but he will be rehired.

So I finished Robert Harris' Pompeii which if you get a chance you should buy. Wonderful thriller set in A.D. 79 and set in, uh, Pompeii. Plus Pliny is in it and he was such a cool bloke and I'm rereading The Godfather which is even better the second time round. Is there any books you guys love that are better the second time?
