sombrefan: (Wondering what to do)

Based on a new interview with Joss at Newsarama about the Angel season 6 comic books, I decided to do a poll (huzzah!). I know that the whole comic book canon issue is causing debate at the moment so I'm interested in knowing what people think. And if you want feel free to pimp the poll about the place, as I'd be very grateful.

I'm a "yes, it's canon" but that doesn't mean I think it's the *same* canon :)

Hi :D
I vote not...the canon finished in 2004, in the end of the series with NFA. Comics is only another type of fanfics

And the question 1...not vote, sorry. I dont love comics really.

A greeting and sorry by my little english :)

I didn't particularly like NFA (or a lot of AtS S5 for that matter), but I adored Spike: Asylum, so it's a definite yes for the first question and since my main fandom is Babylon 5 where canon is what the Great maker says is canon, it's a yes for the second question as well (even when talking about something the S8 comics which has been quite disappointing so far).

Also here via [livejournal.com profile] sueworld2003. I'll be reading. I loved the way NFA ended. I don't think of it as a cliffhanger. On the other hand, BtVS ended. It came to an end and we all knew it was going to end. AtS on the other hand was cancelled before its time (I reckon it had another year in it) and we already know some of what ME had planned for that year.

The comic may not follow that plan exactly but it'll probably be along the lines of what was planned.

I'm looking forward to it, especially now I know Brian Lynch will be 'showrunning.' Spike: Asylum was far and away the best thing IDW have produced so far in the Angel franchise.

As for whether it's canon - yes it is, though I think I have it in a separate compartment in my head to show canon. Whether they'll ever link up, I'm not sure. It depends.

I'm going with "of course it's canon, unless I don't like it."

It is Joss' creation. If he says it is canon, it is canon imo. Will I read - it is Joss writing so of bloody course I will! Joss for frak's sake!

I don't really get this. Of course it will be canon, it's not open to debate, it's a fact... why a poll?

The fandom does not sing with one voice. Some fans will not see it as canon.

Some will not even agree that that is an element of canon, but for me it is. Some of the other canon issues I can be a little more lenient on, since it has been pointed out that some canon things were inconsistent even within the series.

I was all prepared to be grumpy about the S8 comics, but then I read them and it's so obviously Joss that since he's declared them canon and the Angel S6 comics canon, then I accede to my Master's voice and accept them as canon.

And I can hardly wait for the S6 Angel comics.

Are you TRYING to be an instigator? ;) If it comes from Joss, it's canon, as simple as that. ;)

My hybrid answer: The finale was perfect, but hell yes, I want to see what happens next.
And as always, in Joss I trust.

I loved NFA (eventually when the veil of tears lifted) but if Joss is involved I want to know what happened next.

Hell I'm just greedy.

I don't think I would consider them canon because Joss is not writing it. In Buffy S8, mostly Buffy writes are writing it.

I will definitely read season 6. But I'm not sure I can accept comics as canon. Because tomorrow Joss will say it's not canon - and?.. He has already said that he could make comics storylines non-canon if the movie happens.

Out of interest, where did he say that? I've seen this referenced elsewhere and I've been trying to find the relevant interview.

MTV: Is there ever a danger in creating these new storylines that you paint yourself into a corner if or when you do a "Buffy" movie?

Whedon: At some point you have to let go of that fear. The movie audience is going to be different. In terms of a Buffy movie, both David [Boreanaz] and Sarah [Michelle Gellar] have pretty much got swinging careers and have never really wanted to revisit the characters anyway. It's doubtful that would happen. I never say never, and it would be fun to do it with them. I would be willing to overlook certain discrepancies. Ultimately, a movie would have to pick them up later in their lives anyway. I would have to fudge it with David, like "He got his mortality back for five years and then he lost it again," or something like that. I don't think anybody's going to mind that much if they get a movie.

I think it's a diplomatic version of "canon is what I want it to be at this particular moment" declaration. :)

Aha! You should post that on the thread on Whedonesque, and see what they all have to say.

I think the only discrepancy Joss is talking about is that Angel will have visibly aged despite vampires not aging. I don't think the discrepancies meant "Oh and I will completely disregard everything written in the comics".

Not sure about it. He was answering the question about storylines. I think he mentioned Angel's aging as an example because he clearly don't want to give away his secrets.
