And hello to my European lurkers.

So I was pondering the US TV shows that be probably shown on satellite and cable TV in January and trying to work out which ones I would like to see.

1) Enterprise --- word is that this show has picked up in the third series and I like the idea of a new foe which threatens Earth.
2) Tru Calling -- despite some of the uncalled for attacks on this show, I'm going to give it a chance. Some Buffy fans have criticised it on the premise that Eliza dared to do her own thing and not do a Faith spinoff.
3) Nip/Tuck -- this was on TNT? Not sure. Anyway Sky are advertising it like mad and it's obvious that they want it to be a big winter hit. Has any one here seen it? Don't think I've seen it mentioned on my friends LJ page.
4) Angel - nuff said. And hello to Ultimate Drew if you're lurking ;).
5) Miss Match - only cause Charisma seems to be a semi-regular on it.
6) Stargate - yes it's showing here already but I think it's going on a break till we catch up with the new episodes in the States. It's not bad but I'd like to see more of a plot arc.
7) Carnivale - I really hope this gets picked up in the UK. Everyone seems to be raving about it. I miss Twin Peaks and this sounds like a perfect replacement.
8) That George Clooney Washington D.C. political drama (forget what it's called). Now your man who did Doonesbury did a TV series with Robert Altman back in the 80s called Tanner '88 which was a mockumentary about a fictional Democratic presidential candidate, well worth watching if it comes up in re-runs. Anyway George's new show reminds me of that and since I love US politics I'll be watching it. Which leads me to
9) The West Wing - which I watch occassionally but it's a bit wishy washy liberal and great character dialogue seems to have gone off the boil.
10) Jake 2.0 - Neither here nor there on this one but since a former Buffy head honcho is involved I'll keep an eye out.
11) Smallville - apparently this is the best season to date (which is not saying much) so if it has moving from its Buffy cloned monster of the week episodes I'll be watching. And the gouy who plays Lex is the best thing in it. Clark/Lex all the way :).
12) The O.C. - just to see what all the fuss is about. Apparently the dialogue is getting close to Whedon penned Buffy episodes or something like that.

And that's it really. This took up a bit of my lunchtime and took my mind off which is always a good thing. I'd be eternally grateful if anyone has anything to say about the 11 shows I wrote about.

hmmm

1) Enterprise -- have not watched this season
2) Tru Calling -- i've given the show a chance, but story wise it's lacking
3) Nip/Tuck -- shown on FX, didn't watch
4) Angel - who is this guy? :)
5) Miss Match - saw the Charisma episode, and she may be back, but the show is bad
6) Stargate - lost interest in this years ago
7) Carnivale - it's not Twin Peaks, but it has the midget from it....on against Alias, didn't watch
8) That George Clooney Washington D.C. political drama (forget what it's called). I knew the name of this, but have now forgot it...didn't watch
9) The West Wing - never seen it
10) Jake 2.0 - I like this show, but he's becoming a little too superhuman
11) Smallville - don't watch

so there's my unbiased opinion on these shows

my assessment

1) Enterprise --- I saw the pilot and nothing else. It was alright but I'm not much for Star Trek lore anyways
2) Tru Calling -- the two best things about this show is 1. Eliza, 2. The "how'd it happen" type mysteries. Well worth casual viewing
3) Nip/Tuck -- A great show that dips its toes often into soap opera. It's over-the-top and in-your-face but can hook you anyways.
4) Angel - Has picked up as the season has gone on
5) Miss Match - I've never seen it. There are some shows I won't watch no matter what good reviews they get.
6) Stargate - Never seen it. Richard Dean Anderson will always be Macgyver to me.
7) Carnivale - Canada doesn't get this yet either. I've heard mixed reviews myself
8) That George Clooney Washington D.C. political drama - not here yet
9) The West Wing - Is falling into soap opera-ness now. Jump the shark? It did a while ago.
10) Jake 2.0 - Never seen it. Don't plan on it
11) Smallville - It is the best season (except for that awful 50s flashback episode) particularly the first few episodes. And it's worth seeing for the Lionel/Lex stuff.
12) The O.C. - It was better in the first few episodes than it is now. But Adam Brody is really the best thing here.

I was hoping to like this show but I don't. The writing is weak and I don't think Eliza is doing a good job with the character. She doesn't seem to play vulnerable or subtle very well, and the role isn't a very intriguing or interesting one. I heard it got picked up and was pretty surprised, as I don't think the ratings are that great. Just my thoughts.

I really enjoyed Nip/Tuck and I have, surprisingly, found myself really liking The O.C. but I must agree with someone above Adam Brody makes the show, there are a few really bad actors there.

Not sure if you're going to get it but if you do, give Joan of Arcadia a chance. It's my favorite new show of the season and right there with Alias as my fave period.
